First Harm Reduction Vending Machine in Toms River

July 31, 2026

Posted by

Ocean County has officially launched its first harm reduction vending machine, located outside the Suburban Health Clinic in Toms River, with the Prevention Resource Network (PRN) taking the lead in operating and regularly restocking the unit. Available 24/7, this vital resource was established through a collaborative partnership to ensure community members have continuous, judgment-free access to life-saving tools designed to combat the region's overdose crisis.

As part of its ongoing operational commitment, PRN manages the regular restocking of the vending machine to keep it stocked with essential supplies. These include naloxone (Narcan) for opioid overdoses, sterile syringes, safer smoking kits, adulterant test strips, wound care items, and personal hygiene products. Ensuring these items are consistently available around the clock helps protect vulnerable individuals and minimizes the risks associated with substance use.

In addition to maintaining the vending machine, PRN oversees the neighboring syringe return kiosk. This dedicated disposal unit promotes safe community practices by allowing individuals to properly discard used equipment, thereby reducing public discard hazards and preventing the transmission of bloodborne illnesses.
